Mustang Family Day 2017-2018
On December 21, 2017 an assembly was held to unite faculty and students together as a family. The original idea came from Frank DeAngelis, the former Principal from Columbine High School in Columbine Colorado. DeAngelis came up with the idea as a way to help the school learn to overcome the tragedy following the massacre in 1999. In 2017 - 2018 school year the idea was brought before the staff at Murray and we decided to make it part of our own tradition.
Elementary students were paired up with upperclassmen, creating seven different groups. These are the group pairings.
Senior Class 2018 was paired with the Fifth Grade Class of 2025
Junior Class 2019 was paired with the Fourth Grade Class of 2026
Sophomore Class 2020 was paired with the Third Grade Class 2027
Freshman Class 2021 was paired with the Second Grade Class 2028
Eighth Grade Class 2022 was paired with the First Grade Class 2029
Seventh Grade Class 2023 was paired with the Kindergarten Class of 2030
Sixth Grade Class 2024 was paired with the Preschool Class of 2031
The older grades received the purple links with Mustang Family on them and the students name. They then presented them to the younger class. The groups connected their links making seven separate chains. Then they connected the seven chains to form a circle.
Special links were given to Sheriff’s Deputy Lucas Darby and K9 Diesel, Jerry Brown, Bud Jones, members of the Murray Lions Club, and Members of the Murray School Foundation, for all of their help and encouragement over the years. These are just a few of the many people and organizations that have helped and encouraged the school over the years.
Faculty, School Board Members, and Coaches were also invited to add their links to the chain. The chain can be seen hanging in the school cafeteria as a daily reminder that we are a family and will always be connected.
The first link of the chain has the name Columbine written on it to honor where the idea was gotten and the Mustang connection to the Columbine.
At graduation all seniors will receive their link back to remind them that they will always be apart of the Mustang Family. There will be an assembly at the beginning of the school year every year to present the new students, faculty, school board members, coaches, and special link recipients with their link.
Each of the upper classes wrote a letter to the underclassmen they were paired with.

This letter was written to the Fifth Grade by the Senior Class
Dear Class of 2025
Do what you can to make the best out of school. Respect everyone like you would your own family. You will be with you class clear through your senior year along with everyone else below you, so try your best to get along.
When you enter junior high and high school do what you want to do and don’t follow the crowd, because when you are gone you won’t have a crowd to follow.
Remember when things get rough there will always be people there for you and people to always have your back. Somebody will always care for you whether it is teachers, friends, or family - they will stand by you.
Never change who you are for any reason. Keep being you!!
